Most popular cabinet door styles 2023 include 4S, skinny shaker, slim shaker

Cabinet door style preferences were varied in past years depending on region, design aesthetic and other factors, but this year, there were clear favorites in cabinet door design.

Variations on the standard Shaker cabinet door style topped the list of this year’s most popular cabinet door styles.

Popular, subtle customization to the standard Shaker door style include inside edges with hints at detail, to Shaker doors with narrow frame widths from 3/4″ to 1-1/4″.

1. Skinny Shaker and Slim Shaker Door Styles

TaylorCraft’s new 4S cabinet door series created an incredible amount of interest from designers, homeowners and cabinetmakers throughout the US looking for a durable, beautiful slim shaker look, without the typical issues associated with lip moulds and mitered joint construction.

Cabinetmakers took notice of the innovative, strong 4S build, with true 3/4″ thickness and three face options including 3/4″ Shaker, 1″ Shaker and 1.25″ Shaker.  Other 4S features popular with designers, homeowners and cabinetmakers are the 90 degree joints which create a stable, durable frame, and 4S’s smooth back without seams or fasteners.

2. Variations on Standard Square Inside Edge Cabinet Doors

TaylorCraft’s flat panel cabinet door with square OE5, or slightly bullnosed OE4 outside edge, and IE9 inside edge was another top cabinet door style due to the IE9’s bevel that softens the look and provides a subtle detail without being too obvious. The IE9 inside edge does not trap as much dust and is also easier to clean than a typical square inside edge.

3. Natural Wood Cabinets

In 2024 natural wood is expected to overtake white as the most popular cabinet color. According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), when asked to list popular kitchen color trends, 28% of designers chose wood, while 26% chose white. Natural wood instantly brings warmth and unique characteristics to a room. Top requested wood species for cabinet doors in 2023 include white oak, rift white oak, walnut, maple and alder.
