According to this year’s Houzz Kitchen Trends Study homeowners overwhelmingly still prefer Shaker style cabinet doors.
To be exact Houzz says “64% of homeowners planned to use or used Shaker style doors in their new/remodeled kitchen, an increase of 8% from 2021 results.
The chart below shows the upward trend in homeowner preference for Shaker style cabinet doors based on annual Houzz survey reports.
What this trend line doesn’t show is the rise of Shaker door style variations, mostly in frame size, (in industry terms, stile and rail width) and the slight variations to the typical Shaker square inside edge. Below are standard, square inside and outside edge Shaker doors with varied frame width – from 2-3/8 to 3-1/8″.
At TaylorCraft we see first hand the custom stile/rail width orders, and variations in inside edge profile. Variations are typically chosen based on personal preference and budget. A wider frame size looks more substantial and it typically costs more than a more narrow frame.
Inside edge variations, subtle detail to create a more custom look for Shaker style cabinet doors, are a popular solution for homeowners who want more personalization in their cabinetry.
Options include a slight bevel, which can also make cleaning easier, a more obvious steep-angled bevel and various waterfall, stepped and rounded inside edge options. View TaylorCraft’s cabinet door profile options page to see the available options.
