I’m Don. I’m one of the owners at Custom Woodworks. And I’m Tank. About 15 years ago or so I started building cabinets spawned from working for a furniture company. I always enjoyed working with wood, building things, creating. I knew it was the direction I wanted to go. Probably 3 years after I got going on cabinets,

Hank and I came together on a job and hit it off and started building cabinets as a business partner set up.

Primarily residential, new construction. We do a small portion of commercial and some remodels but mostly new construction.

We got really behind one day and started looking at door companies to outsource to, between that and the headache that we were having at the time with equipment and trying to train someone new to build doors and at the pace we were moving it was something we experimented with. It was a way for us to increase our production level without bringing in new skilled labor.

With TaylorCraft the communication has been much better, much greater, when I send something in, I get, as Tank said a while ago, a response back that is easy to check it off, it’s easy to know what is going on. I would say the communication side was the easiest. It’s superb.

TaylorCraft’s shipping has been without fail, bar none some of the best we’ve ever dealt with.  As far as the packaging, it’s fantastic. Each particular order that comes in is labeled. It’s easy for my guys to pick up, follow through, and see what’s there. Each order is on its own pallet. Each particular set is stacked and has foam and spacers and has cardboard around all the edges. It’s labeled properly. It tells don’t stack on this pallet. It shows up almost every single time without any problems at all.

With TaylorCraft if I’ve called and asked for something quickly, it has been delivered without fail, every time, when I was told it was going to be there.

With TaylorCraft the lead times are 5 days, sometimes if it’s a custom order it’s 7 days. That’s perfect.

I can get it worked up, get it out, get it back and that’s because of the ordering system that is in place at TaylorCraft.

What I like the most about it is that once our order is accepted it automatically generates a due date to us so I know within minutes of the acceptance of the order when that order will be shipped and I can count on that.

The customer service, any time I call with something that I need, they’ve gotten to know, It’s almost like they know before I even tell them who I am and they are already getting a hold of Marsha or one of the other girls, and it’s nice because I don’t call over there and ask for one person, and have them say who is this or who do you need to talk to, what have you been talking to them about and then you’ve got to wait, wait, wait. If I don’t talk to who I’m calling for, whoever I do talk to at TaylorCraft, they seem to somehow know exactly what I’m trying to get to.

So their in house ability to move between themselves and keep themselves informed of the customer’s needs is great. I love that part. As far as door ordering, corrections made, invoicing every single thing that we deal with correspondence wise is exceptional and very timely.

Which makes it easy. It’s just easy. Us being able to get together with TaylorCraft and have the variety of doors and the variety of woods and selections has afforded us to be able to get into a much richer market, to a highly detailed market. Between the mitered doors, the cope and stick doors with applied moldings those are things that even though we are a 9-10 man shop at the moment it affords us the ability to have a nicer product in the end. Because the doors make the job. I would definitely recommend TaylorCraft to another cabinetmaker and we have, for the reasons stated before.

Customer service, the availability of the doors, quality, no issues, the shipping the lead time, everything about the company itself would make me recommend TaylorCraft. Absolutely.

They run the door shop at TaylorCraft just like we run our shop. Its almost like an extension of us.

I drop a paper in the fax machine and I get something back as far as I know my guys are out there at another shop working and I get information back and they build me some doors and they ship it to my door and it’s done. That’s exactly what it feels like.
