Hi, My name’s Rodney, I’m with Southern Cabinets in Waco, Texas. Southern Cabinets has been in business or been a cabinet shop since about 1972. We changed our name a few years ago to Southern Cabinets. This whole building used to be an old hardware and lumber yard the original owner was making cabinets back in the back,which now the CNC is there. He figured out he was making more money building cabinets than selling hardware and lumber so he closed it down and turned it into a full blown cabinet shop.
I’ve had the shop for the last about 18 years. I was looking for a door company that basically could give me better selection for my customers, more options for my customers, therefore increasing my opportunity to capture more jobs. Basically we build upper end cabinets in houses in Waco that run about 375 on up to about a million sometime even more. So most of our cabinets are high end. We went to a CNC machine a few years ago. Our cabinets are dadoed, our cabinets have dovetail drawers, so basically a high end customer comes to our shop.
I got to figuring up how many different heads I would have to have, different routers, how much equipment I would have to buy to be able to give my customers that type of selection. It also gave me an opportunity to make doors that other people in my community didn’t have. It just gives my customer a greater selection.
I’m always concerned about quality. Quality comes first. I did look at other door companies. I probably tried 3 or 4 other door companies.
When I used to build my own doors, I built my doors a certain way, and TaylorCraft matches that quality, not only quality in construction. I had to verify and make sure that they understood, that we were on the same page of getting me the door that I need to provide my customer. And TaylorCraft stands behind their product. I found that out personally.
You know when your product is going to arrive in you shop. So you can schedule your work better. You know your doors are coming in, you know you can put them on, you know that job is ready to be shipped. They get the doors here when they say. They keep you informed.
You can simply take your best employees, put them in there building your cabinets which allows you to build more cabinets, and by building more cabinets, you’re going to make more money. You really don’t get paid to build cabinets, you get paid to install cabinets. Nobody wants to give us that check until we get the job completed. So you can spend more time building cabinets therefore making more money at the end of the year. I was able to create more profits to the company, more money in my pocket.
